Hyperlinx – installed and serviced with hand spasms
March 9, 2009 | Category: I'm a celebrator, I'm a crafty martha, I'm a DesignHER
Why would one DesignHER Momma spend hours on top of hours creating paper chains? Um, because she’s cah-razy – that’s why.
Honestly, the photos don’t do it justice (bet you’ve heard that one before – but it’s so true). Let’s just say that by the time it was all said and done; my hand hurt, my neck hurt, and my face hurt from smiling so much.
What started out as an empty concrete block room (think large jail cell)….
Slowly started to look like something hopped up on red bull laced with LSD…
The entry to the crazy, hyper fairytale installation…
An “artist” and her work. One million paper chains, staples, and hand spasms later. I’m not one to promote recreational drug use, but if I was a mushroom eatin’ kinda girl, I would have wanted to do it here. I bet it would have been a trip. Instead, I settled for a Mountain Dew with ginseng.
I had a great time – dare I say another check off the bucket list?
With true celebration of community, I have to give credit where credit is due – it’s only right:
My friend Shannon is really the brilliance behind this spastic mess. I honestly was just a worker bee that held the stapler and steadied the ladder. Shannon is a true artist, and I’m just, well, a part-time designer with fun friends.
And a huge THIS IS YOUR INSTALLATION TOO shout out to about 5 other amazing women who made many, MANY of the chains. Without all their hard work this would have just been a recycling bins best friend.
And last but most importantly, I have to admit that my childish inspiration comes from my 4 year old daughter who encourages me to twirl, giggle and act silly every.single.day. Most days she is so creative and motivated it hurts and exhaust me. PK loved helping with the chains and it wouldn’t have been near as fun without her.
Hyperlinx is beautiful, fun, romantic, and unfortunately painfully temporary. Hope you enjoy!

You do know the only way to take those down is to have a huge bonfire don’t you?

what a neat idea! this looked like so much fun – we used to make these all the time in elementary school, I had forgotten all about them!
