I Bleed Green – usually

March 27, 2009 | Category: I'm a celebrator

I Bleed Green usuallyMy years spent at Michigan State were some of the most amazing years of my life. And the best month of those years spent in East Lansing had to be the month of March. March Madness always equaled a good naughty time for me. A license to burn couches and flip over cop cars. (Ok, I didn’t do that – but some did, and it was fun to watch).

I was very much in love with Spartan basketball during my college stay. I had season tickets for 5 years, to which I never missed a game (almost). By my 5th year, my seats were so good I could smell Dick Vitals Old Spice cologne. 3rd row, almost center court was where you could find me.

My junior year, when the final four was in Florida – I bought Final Four tickets through the student lottery system. Then I realized the high street value for this event. I purchased them for I think about $140 – turned around sold them to another student for upwards of $400. My blood was green, just a different type of green. Money green. Cha-ching.

Two years later, (my super-senior year, holla!) the Final Four was in Minneapolis. I again bought tickets, figuring that is was my last chance to really cheer on and support the Spartans. Michael and I packed our bags and decided to road trip it to Minn (which means you have to drive through Wisconsin, igniting my love for cheese curds, but that’s another post).

We went to the Final Four game, then sold our champion game tickets to a wealthy alumni for a wad of cash and free dinner at his fancy restaurant. Again, I bled green – Money green. Cha-Ching.

Tonight the boys from MSU play in my city – Indianapolis. A game that will be fought less than 3 miles from my home. I just happen to have a free babysitter that’s going to come over and give Michael and I a much needed night out. I was going to buy tickets to the game, whatever the cost – I owe it to my team.

Game tip-off is at 9:37 pm – and I don’t stay out that late (because I’m 30). We will be going out to eat downtown then coming back home to watch it from the comforts of my couch – where I’ll be free to doze off if necessary. I still consider myself to Bleed Green – my wound is just not a sever as it used to be.

So, are you March Madness fans? Where does your alliance fall?

Oh, and to all my Boilermaker friends, I cried crocodile tears in my warm beer for you last night. So sorry about that…

I’m not even a Purdue Fan (IU Grad) and I was sad they lost!

Was disappointed that Butler lost too…

All my Indiana teams are out….

So I guess I will root for any Big 10 teams left.

Hubs is going to game on Sunday…maybe Michigan will be playing still….

I love March Madness but don’t have any particular favorite team. My college is more of a division 2 team though so did not have any personal connection to any teams. I do usually root for Michigan to a certain point (on my bracket sheet) but then usually stray away to other teams towards the Final Four. I’ve never been a Purdue fan though. I would love to know more about cheese curd. Have a great time tonight!

Well, I’m a Duke fan by default. My hubby was a huge fan long before it was cool and trendy to love Duke!

My bracket this year sucked. I lost two bucks. Oh well…

Yay! Final Four! I’m in such a great mood I won’t even complain that people commmented they will cheer for “Michigan”. Ugh… NonMichiganders always get that confused.
