Blown Away in Chicago? It was more like a Tornado hit me.
July 27, 2009 | Category: I'm a Blogger, I'm a Traveler, I'm an Eater
My last post was in anticipation of the storm that has been properly named Blogher ’09. It blew me away, twisted me around, filled me with fatigue, and left me picking up and putting away copious amounts of debris.
I honestly can say that I didn’t learn much about how to blog or tips on blogging, instead I learned about people. Behind every blog is a person. Blogs are not written by robots or aliens. Surprisingly I’ve learned that blogs are written by real people – with feelings, emotions, lives. Blog that I read (“mommyblogs”) are not fairytale stories made up for my enjoyment – they are the diaries of our real lives.
Some of the best experiences this weekend came very organically, by hanging around with a few of my favorite women. Here are some pics from the highlight reel:
*all the following pictures were stolen with the best intentions from Casey’s Flickr Photostream – because she takes purty pictures of me.
Eating room service at midnight. That plate of hot wings cost like $22, no I’m not joking. Worth every penny and drop of heartburn I felt in the morning. Baby gotta eat.

Eating again. This time with Steph and her adorable little girl Ivy. CheeseburgHER anyone?

At the BowlHER party with my best and only roommate Casey. Her outfit won her a trip to NCY for a Project Runway party. My outfit won me lots of stares, belly poking, and giggles. Yes, that’s a bowling ball exploding from my abdomen.

Riding around in the 2010 Camero with Casey and Midwest Mommy. Talk about squealing tires on Lakeshore Drive? Amazing. Eat your hearts out boys…

A 27′ weiner (insert inappropriate joke here).

Folks, life is what you make of it. Soak up every opportunity. Do your best to enjoy the ride. Don’t be afraid to sit in the driver seat a Weinermobile or eat with a fast food bag on your head.
So what if you missed the swag bag because you were having too much fun with your BFF on the dance floor. Would you really trade want to trade a priceless memory in lieu of a waiting in line for a free sample of deodorant and a mini jump drive?
Life is short.
Have a good time.
I know I will.

These 2 sentences in your post really spoke to me: "Surprisingly I've learned that blogs are written by real people – with feelings, emotions, lives. Blog that I read ("mommyblogs") are not fairytale stories made up for my enjoyment – they are the diaries of our real lives."
I've been reading several blogs for a while now and only recently starting de-lurking. It's amazing how you can feel like you really know someone just by reading them, but sometimes the reading makes it feel like a made-up story and not someone's real life (you said it much more eloquently than I just did). I hope to one day meet the people behind the stories as well!

Love the photo of you and Steph!
Also, those chicken wings look amazing. I'm not even pregnant anymore, and I could still definitely see myself devouring those at midnight.

It sounds like you concentrated on what matters most…relationships.
I'm glad you enjoyed the conference.
It really is a whirlwind experience, isn't it?

There’s no question that many of us as a rule ignore the power of mother nature and hurricanes coupled with tornados are just a couple of very good illustrations. I like your editorial here that is pretty accurate as well as to the point and for myself, as being an specialist from the meteorology industry, I offer it the thumbs up!
