Delurking Day for Disaster Relief

January 14, 2010 | Category: I'm a Giver

*make sure to read exciting update at bottom of post!

Know what’s really fun? Blogging. Know what’s even more of a good time? Blogging when you know that someone is reading and listening. I love getting comments, but sometimes they feel few and far between.

I don’t have much time to write today, in fact, I totally planned on avoiding the computer and this blog until next week. Hey – anyone want to bring my kids to the dentist today? Because that’s what I’ll be doing.

Anyway, today is officially Blogger Delurking Day. I want every single person who reads this post to leave me a comment. Whether you are a first time visitor or daily stalker, tell me you stopped by.

DelurkerDay2010 400x400 Delurking Day for Disaster Relief

But since I can tell you all are lazy and unmotivated, I’ve decided to sweeten the deal a bit (husband please don’t hate me, you know you love me and my crazy ways).

I’m assuming that you all know what happened in Haiti earlier this week. The earth shook and the buildings crumbled. They need out help. Today I’ll be giving $1 for every comment I get on this post to Compassion International Haiti Disaster Relief Fund. I sponsor a little girl, Weneka who lives in the area hardest hit. I’m desperately praying that she is alive and that her family has been spared.

So do it, leave me a comment. Give me a virtual hug and “squeeze” my wallet.

7:30 pm
*most exciting update ever:
A fantastic organization called Bloganthropy (@bloganthropy) hooked me up with another fantastic company, The JAR group (@thejargroup) and they will be matching $1/per comment up to $250! I am absolutely blown away.

If others feel so inclined to match or contribute more, please feel free to contact me at: designhermomma (at) gmail.com or visit Compassion International directly.

You all rock my world!

Thank you for doing this for Haiti. I used to attend Calvary CRC in Holland and went on their first mission trip to Haiti in 2007. Those people were already poor, hurting, desparate (but proud, generous and such beautiful people). My heart is breaking right now and seeing you make such a generous offer to donate for each comment is beautiful. I am praying everyone asks God how they are to help and digs deep into pockets, prayers and love.

For those of you who are reading through the comments, I'd ask that you might also keep a few members of my church, St. Luke's UMC in Indianapolis in your prayers. A mission team from St. Luke's was in Fondwa, Haiti when the earthquake occurred. As of this afternoon the church still hadn't been able to establish communication with them. Thanks so much.

Well, since I'm number 251, I'm bummed that my comment won't be matched. But I'm so proud of you for raising money. Way to go!

I found you via Moosh, I think, and I've stuck around b/c I like your style. You're even in my google reader, which SAYS something, ya know?

I'm not sure I've ever commented before though, so this maybe IS my actual DELURKING comment. This is rare for me b/c normally I cannot shut up around the internets. =)

    OK DesignHer Momma aka Emily,
Ya just had to throw in the Haiti situation didn't 'cha. I'm a first time visitor to your blog and i'm so deep into the blogs I don't even remember how I got here! But I'm glad I did. Bless you for your cares and I'm praying for them all in Haiti. I hope your little one is ok. As I watched Good Morning America this morning I saw Robin Roberts at this orphanage where this Iowa couple had a little girl they were adopting and they were frantically trying to find any info on her whereabouts. Well she was there at this orphanage. Tired but ok. Lots of those stories are now coming out of Haiti too and they give hope.
OK. I'm off to read more of your blog. Later. :-)
