no birthday slump for me this year, promise. | designhermomma.com

no birthday slump for me this year, promise.

I don’t know what it is, but I’ve been known to get into a birthday funk on my special day.  I know, so sad really.  It’s my one day of the year, and I often wreck it with a bad attitude for no good reason.

In the past, I’ve had semi-legitimate reasons.  Like 6 years ago, I was overdue on my birthday (overdue pregnant ladies, don’t cross them. They will hurt you.) And then there was last year, grandma died on my birthday. Not cool.

Today is my birthday, my 32nd birthday.

Here’s the deal.  I refuse to spend the day in a slump of sadness. Because that’s dumb.  So dumb.  It is really dumb.  For real.

32 things that are going to make my day THE.BEST.DAY.EVER!

  1. The promise of 70 degrees and sunny weather. In November, in Indiana.
  2. I refuse to watch Caillou today.
  3. Washing my sheets in my fancy Victoria Secret detergent. I’ve you’ve ever done this, you know how awesome it is.
  4. Grande Java Chip in the afternoon.
  5. Splurging on an (inexpensive) bracelet that I’ve been coveting for so long.
  6. Dinner at my favorite restaurant. Partially because kids eat free on Tuesday, partially because they sent me a birthday card, mostly because I love it
  7. Favorite beer.
  8. Eating leftovers for breakfast, and not feeling guilty.
  9. Favorite purchased cupcakes for desert. (yeah, not gonna spend my day baking my own cake)
  10. Michael coming home an hour early tonight. (but don’t get me started on his upcoming business trips, that will pull me into the slump)
  11. Piper is FINALLY back in school today.
  12. Nola said she would be nice to me, just for today.
  13. Gage is really, really walking now.
  14. Looking forward to my mommy coming to visit next week.
  15. Dinner with a new friend tomorrow night.
  16. Getting to hear Michael Pollan speak on Friday, with another friend.
  17. Allowing myself time to ignore the mess, and read a chapter in a new book.
  18. Celebrating Grandma’s one year anniversary of going to Heaven. See? I’m turning that frown upside down.
  19. Celebrating my firstborns 6th birthday tomorrow.
  20. I’ve already been sung happy birthday today, twice.
  21. The promise of sleeping in (come Saturday).
  22. Officially refinancing our mortgage today, OMG, this is going to save us SO much money (in like 15 years).
  23. Naptime. It will happen.
  24. Shower. It will happen.  I’ve even going to do my hair. With a flat iron! And product!
  25. Painting my toenails, even though it’s not sandal weather anymore.
  26. Birthday cards, that I’ve saved until today to open, at nap time.
  27. My husbands love.
  28. Facebook love.
  29. Twitter love.
  30. The sound of my phone, ringing and buzzing off the hook with well wishes.
  31. Love of a priceless friend.
  32. Comment love. (hint, hint, that’s you.)

Another bright spot for your list… I think that your grandma obviously had something to do with the awesome birthday weather. I mean, 70 degrees in November… can Heaven grin down any bigger than that?

    Enjoy your day. 🙂

I love V’s Secret detergent! My best friend uses it and would always wash our towels in it when we were roommates, so the smell reminds me of her.

  26. Oh how I’ve been waiting for a post today to wish you a happy birthday! They pop up in Google reader so I ended up reading the post from your Priceless Friend first.

In reading this, I clicked on your FB page to add you there, but does that make me too much like a stalker? Since after all, I don’t really know you and the FB is YOU…not just Designhermomma. : ) We do share one mutual friend, but guessing it’s just because she was the one that turned me onto your blog.

    Have a very happy birthday!

  27. I had leftovers for breakfast, I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves to do this. It’s as fun as breakfast for dinner! This list is great! It makes me a little jealous. You should get to pick at least 2 or more things off the list each day for the next year.

  32. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! You deserve a special day, being the wonderful momma and wife that you are. Way to look on the bright side today and find so many things to be thankful for. Glad to hear your sickie is finally healthy again (yikes!). Incidentally, I too love VS’s laundry detergent and save my coupons for that in particular. Your new book will not disappoint, and if you want to borrow my copies of the next 2 in the trilogy, I’d be happy to loan and mail them to you. You know, because it’s your birthday. 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

Like that? How I totally just tried to score points with you? I know, I’m sneaky like that. But in all truth, I hope you have an awesome night and enjoy your dinner and especially enjoy no Caillou….because that song plays on a loop in my brain, causing me to rip my hair out. And it’s already falling out because I’m about to give birth. You’re one rad mama, and an insanely rad blogger! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
