The unofficial 40 x 40 list, or somthing close to that.

August 3, 2011 | Category: I'm a celebrator, I'm a Dreamer

I’ve always had a “bucket list” of sorts, located only in my mind. Realizing that I’m not getting any younger, I’ve decided to take a hard look at it and try to knock a few of these babies off the list.

Some goals are big, some are ridiculously dumb. I still need to add a few more, I’m assuming they will come to me.

This past weekend, I attended a Nascar race, the Brickyard 400 (thanks to Heather). It was all I ever dreamed it to be, even got skunky beer drizzled on me.

5994387030 c4598e43be The unofficial 40 x 40 list, or somthing close to that.

So as of right now, here are a few things I would love to do before I turn 40, or 50, or just get done before I die. I’m not that into specifics.

  1. buy cowboy boots in Nashville
  2. run a 1/2 marathon
  3. visit Shanghai China
  4. architectural tour of Rome
  5. wine country in a convertible
  6. be an extra in a tv show/commercial/music video
  7. have a boudoir photo shoot
  8. have a unmedicated birth
  9. work at the State Fair
  10. milk a cow the old fashion way
  11. dye my hair with streaks of  pink/purple
  12. get something published in print
  13. climb a 14,000 ft mountain
  14. attempt cloth diapering
  15. own a Jeep Wrangler
  16. learn to shoot a gun
  17. learn to knit
  18. take my family to Disney (preferably while they still believe in princesses)
  19. Buy and restore an old (really old) house
  20. go on a hot air balloon ride
  21. speak at a conference
  22. witness a birth, not my own
  23. attend a Nascar race
  24. baptize my children
  25. visit the Holy Lands
  26. smoke pot (let’s pretend you never read that, but I really want to do it someday)
  27. hang out on a tour bus with a rock star
  28. pay off a home
  29. find something super rare at a thrift store/garage sale
  30. attend a taping of SNL
  31. make my own wine
  32. learn to drive a motorcycle
  33. organize and pull off a surprise party
  34. read Atlas Shrugged
  35. learn to reupholster furniture

Ok, that’s my list in progress. Let me know if you can help me get any of these things knocked off. I’m not above asking for help or friendly favors.

great list :) there are several on there that i’d love to do, too. not sure how much help i can be, but a few things that i’m happy to go in with you on include:
    - cloth diapering: since i’m already doing it i’m happy to be a cheerleader (but promise not to judge one bit if you decide it’s not for you) and answer questions.
    - buy and restore an old house: as an historic preservationist and avid diy-er i have grand plans of buying and fixing up houses, bonus if they’re old. would gladly do this with you.
    - run a 1/2 marathon: i’ve only ever run 5ks before, so this would be a stretch, but that’s what keeping someone accountable is about, right?
    - making wine: my husband is all about brewing beer and will probably be more than happy to jump on the wine bandwagon, too.

i’ve also dyed lots of hair in my day, and have reupholstered some dining room chairs once (but would love to learn something more complex).

So when are we going to hang out again? I’m festering here downtown indefinitely.

@Emily, anytime! i’m here until mid-october, which feels so far away i’d consider myself here indefinitely, too. i’m finally settled post-vacation, so let me know if anything works particularly well for you. i’m free this weekend, and most weekdays (provided i don’t have any major work projects). my sister’s coming weekend after this coming one, so we could always do a (alcohol-free) girls night out :) let me know if you have preferences…

-i can teach you to knit, the fast and awesome way.
-i can tell you how to go to snl if you have a free friday night/sat morning/sat night in nyc
-help with cloth diapering…show you my stuff, my process etc. also, you can talk to my sister who knows so much about online places to get good deals on diapers. seriously, you won’t regret it!
-and i know of an awesome old house that needs lots of love! ;)
-let’s hang with mary jane together. i’ve never done it before either…
-dye your hair. i’ve done that some before.
-you’re welcome to come to a certain birth in march, lord willing. not sure you’ll want to be my friend after that. it’s crazy and awesome to witness a birth though.

1/2 marathon. will run with you.

Atlas Shrugged has come up 4 times this week. Guess I need to reserve it. I’ve read 2 other Rand books and loved them.

    SNL = awesome.

as does paying off your house.

learn to knit, speak at a conference, wine country/convertible = all on my list, too.

the find something rare at a thrift store, hasn’t that already happened like 150 times for you? ;)

Um, I know someone who knows someone who can help you with #7.

Also, #6, if being on YouTube counts.

And I highly recommend taking your kids to Disney while they will be wowed. It was one of my best mom days EVAH.

    Love the list!

you make me laugh!! and I almost got streaks of blue put in my hair this last time at the hairdressers – except I wondered “am I the old chick w/ 5 kids trying to be young and hip??” I’m going to do it though SOON – lol… it’s almost fair time – what “new” food they taunting us with this year?? ;)

    Emily Reply:

If I dye my hair pink, you must go blue. Regarding fair food, I haven’t heard much! I’m going this weekend, so I’ll be sure to report back!

I’m contemplating the Rock N Roll Half Marathon in Denver on October 9th! :) And then after the run you will likely be sore…you can run into one of the many dispensaries, claim you got a bad back, and poof #26 will be taken care of too! :) Okay…its probably not that easy, but close. :)

Love your list! I need to update mine!

    great list!

looks like you have lots of CD supporters, but I’ll cheer you on for that one. I recently wrote a post about my experiences (only been doing it since April) but it’s been great and I’m not going back!

    http://jandmh.blogspot.com/2011/07/everything-you-never-wanted-to-know.html

I started with a 15 mo old and I think that made it so much easier than starting w/ a newborn. you have enough to do with a newborn – let alone trying to learn how to juggle cloth. if we have a baby #3 CD will be a no-brainer now.

You CAN cloth diaper! It is so easy once you get the hang of it. I figure I do about 8 loads of laundry a week the way it is so why not add in a couple more :) If you want to go the bumGenius route let me know and we can work something out :)

So for #13, Im not sure how many children you plan on having, but since your pregnant with #4, why don’t you try with this child, then save the money from regular diapers and put it toward #17. And on your trip to #17, you can #13 :)
