My school bird. (a stride rite giveway)
September 26, 2012 | Category: I'm a Giver, I'm The Bird's Momma
Nola started kindergarten a month ago. Our days, nights, and every moment in between have been changed. She’s no longer here all day to be my buddy, running errands around town and helping me make morning smoothies. But then again, she’s not here all day butting heads with me either, the give and take battle that became our norm.
I miss her so much during those in-between hours that are sandwiched between breakfast and dinner. But I know kindergarten is the place for her to be. She’s thriving and growing socially. She’s learning and understanding. It’s been a good change for everyone.
When I think of Nola’s personality, the chorus to a song by Katy Perry instantly comes to mind. Yes, it’s one of those pesky earworm songs I frequently get stuck in my head in the middle of the night.
You… change your mind
Like a girl… changes clothes
*********
‘Cause you’re hot then you’re cold
You’re yes then you’re no
You’re in then you’re out
You’re up then you’re down
You’re wrong when it’s right
It’s black and it’s white
We fight, we break up
We kiss, we make up
Ugh, Nola. We’re so much the same.
The day starts looking like 600 other uniformed students, marching into class.
Orange polo shirt. Khaki pants. Navy Shoes (which, omgeee where are her socks?) And a backpack that is far too big, on her itty bitty bird frame.
And the day ends with a silly five year old little girl twirling in the backyard until she falls over in giggles.
A tattered hand-me-down princess dress. Her mom’s wedding day “crown” atop her head. Sparkle sneakers.
The awesome folks at Stride Rite heard Nola was heading to the classroom for the first time ever, and wanted to outfit her with a few pairs of shoes. Generously giving her a step in the right direction, so to speak.
Stride Rite believes every kid should have 3 pairs of shoes. A pair for school, a pair of play, and a pair for when it gets cold out.
And I couldn’t agree more.
So I’m teaming up with them, hosting a giveaway for a $50 gift certificate to their site. If it were me, I’d probably hit up the sale section and walk away with 2 pairs.
Enter the Rafflecopter below:
*I received the shoes mentioned above. All opinions expressed are my own.

I’d use the money to buy shoes for Mary. She mostly owns hand me down shoes from her big sister, except for the 2 pair of Stride Rite shoes we bought her at the beginning of the school year.

I’d like to gift my potential ‘win’ to a little girl in my neighborhood that rides her bike past my house, and is always smiling, and yelling HI mrs. Barb…what’cha doin? She always brightens my day. I was at the stride rite store last week and had my oldest son fitted for the Birkenstock orthotics. They are very supportive and were recommended by our Kaiser PT dept. I noticed my daughter having simar issues. Wish it didn’t take me 9 years to identify Patrice’s problems. Moms watch how your kids walk and run and wear out their shoes. No cheap shoes at our house

Your relationship with Nola seems a lot like my relationship with my daughter. Since mine’s only 3.5, I’m assuming the head to head battles don’t ease up?
Maybe if I let her pick her own Stride Rite shoes, it’d be one less thing for us to argue over.

Stride Rite is a bit of a “tradition” in our family. My husband and I BOTH wore them when we were babies and toddlers (or so our mothers told us) and now our little guy is wearing them as well! We had a pair of the “Step 2″ shoes, because he was starting to walk. Unfortunately, he outgrew them before he even started walking! Now he’s all over the place, and we have yet to get him the next size up. Thanks for offering this giveaway to give us a shot at doing just that!
