First Birthday CakeFace Smash

He spies the cake from across the room:
Dainty at first, he carefully minds his baby manners:
And then, well, it’s time to get down to business. Skip the middle man (hands!), and get it directly into the source (face!) as quickly as possible:
Double-fisting the good stuff. Yep, he’s definitely my child.
Knowing when to quit is sometimes half the battle. Learning to walk away when you’ve had enough.

No worries, baby. Go ahead and leave the mess for your momma to deal with. You have more important things to do, like bounce and shout off a freshly created sugar rush.

I must be honest, I really had grand ideas for setting the perfect “stage” for these photos. In my mind, there was an adorable vintage chair in the background, a perfectly matched garland hanging on the wall, and baby Paul was going to be wearing some sort of quirky birthday hat or crown.
(can you picture it? Cool, right)
But in reality, life got away from me, as it always does. Instead, we ended up with a baby in a blue cloth diaper, a perfectly sized cake from the bakery down the street, and a clean no-frills background.
At first, I was disappointed with myself, that yet again I failed to get my act together to do something “properly”.
You guys, these photos turned out perfectly. They suit my simplistic style to a tee, and baby Paul’s sweet personality was allowed to be the star of the show.
Sometimes, the extras and extravagance are just unneeded.
*And a big thank you (thank you) (and thank you again) to Casey, who continues to selflessly offer up her talents in order that I can preserve precious childhood memories. You guys, she’s magic.
